Accounting Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager provides strong accounting leadership within the organization and will be able to step in for the Controller as needed. The Accounting Manager assists with the oversight of accounting functions, including government grant compliance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and maintaining a system of strong internal controls. Additional duties include performing journal entries and reconciliations in support of month- and year-end close and preparing audit schedules for the external audit.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Perform all required billings and reporting for all grants and contracts

· Tracking/reconciling grant and contract receipts and payments

· Oversee the financial aspects of grant management, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local funding requirements and organizational policies.

· Collaborate with program managers and grant writers to develop accurate and realistic budgets for grant proposals.

· Review and ensure timely submission and accurate financial reports to grantors, highlighting key financial information and ensuring adherence to reporting guidelines.

· Monitor grant budgets throughout the project lifecycle, identifying and addressing any variances or discrepancies.

· Become well versed in the details of awarded grant documents and requirements including timing, budgeting and reporting and work closely with grantors and agency staff to clarify and ensure adherence to requirements

· Manage payroll allocations used in grant budgets and review these regularly to ensure accuracy

· Ensure that grant expenditures and revenue recognition follow grant and contract agreements and regulatory requirements.

· Provide regular financial reports (i.e. profit and loss statements, grant budget vs. actual, etc.), and other requested financial analyses to program managers

· Assist in the financial aspects of grant proposal development, including budget creation and financial narratives.

· Preform month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, revenue and expense analysis, and overhead cost allocation.

· Provides accounting support and backup to the Controller. Assists in facilitating daily accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting standards.

· Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis as requested.

· Assist in providing training and support

· Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or working to complete a degree

· Three years of general accounting experience.

· A strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially revenue recognition is required, with grant and nonprofit accounting.

· Strong organization and prioritization skills

· Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Knowledge of QuickBooks Online, Microsoft 365, Bill.com and strong Excel skills.
