Procedure Scheduler - Perioperative Service Area

Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine the Instructional Support Assistant I in the Peri-operative Service Area is responsible for coordinating the daily scheduling of operating room and procedure rooms with other staff utilizing our scheduling system. Responsibilities Create a daily schedule from cases booked in the Surgical Queue based on room availability and ensuring the appropriate equipment is available. Add final anesthesia providers in the system and ensure they appear on the final schedule for the following day. Monitor physician privileges for community doctors and coordinate multiple surgeon cases and proctoring scheduling when applicable. Utilize block booking schedules to coordinate operating room time. Schedule pre‑operative testing appointments directly with patients and provide appointment information. Provide training as necessary to new staff. Handle scheduling tasks for both the Main Operating Room and the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Associate’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in a hospital/healthcare setting working with a computerized patient/procedure scheduling system, or in lieu of a degree, at least 5 years of experience in such a setting. Detail oriented, well organized, works well within a group. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Admitting/registration experience. Scheduling experience in hospital, physician office, or outpatient surgery center. Familiarity with Cerner scheduling (Surginet), Power Chart, Microsoft Office.
