Job Description Position: Extended Term Substitute (ETS), Speech/Language Pathologist Available May 2026 - July 2026 Cambridgeport/Office of Student Services At the Cambridgeport School, we believe that learning unfolds when we provide conditions in which children can explore, inquire, and shape their own understandings. Cambridgeport teachers and families work as a community toward assuring success for every child. The school values the culture and beliefs that each child brings to the classroom, and teachers believe that children must engage with their world in order to make sense of it and build their knowledge. Each student is expected to take responsibility for his/her own learning while collaborating, supporting, and respecting others. Teachers provide learning experiences that guide and capture our students’ interests while at the same time helping them to develop literacy and math skills, think critically, problem solve, and engage in rich scientific and historical inquiry. The Office of Student Services (OSS) The Office of Student Services (OSS) is responsible for providing a variety of supports and services to students in Cambridge Public Schools (CPS). Our programs are dedicated to ensuring equitable access and success for students with disabilities and students who have advanced learning needs. The Opportunity OSS, in partnership with the Cambridgeport School, seeks a Speech/Language Pathologist to provide evaluations, develop IEPs and 504 Plans, and deliver evidence‑based speech and language services to students in a collaborative school setting. The role includes maintaining compliant documentation, partnering with families and multidisciplinary teams, and supporting student access to the general curriculum. Key Responsibilities Adhere to established rules, regulations, laws, and appropriate ethical standards when conducting speech and language screenings and evaluations. Administer formal and informal assessments, including observing students in educational environments, selecting appropriate assessments based on individual student needs, and administering tests according to acceptable procedures. Prepare, write, and submit evaluation reports that meet state requirements and appropriately convey information to parents and school teams in language that is clear and easily understood. Determine the effects of the student’s impairment in regard to accessing the general curriculum. Collect data for IEP planning, decision making, and progress monitoring. Maintain easily accessible and accurate files and safeguard the confidentiality of student records. Schedule direct services using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration, and pull‑out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment. Plan and use systematic and evidence‑based intervention strategies for individual students and groups of students to foster communicative competence. Modify therapeutic instructional approaches as needed. Complete logging of services for third‑party reimbursement accurately and in a timely manner as appropriate. Collaborate with school personnel, such as teachers, administrators, and other related service providers to best meet the needs of all students. Provide information to school personnel about language disorders as they relate to literacy and interactive communication skills, information about speech disorders (articulation, voice, and fluency), and their impact on communication and learning. Use appropriate therapy materials to meet the needs, age, cultural differences, and interests of individual students and arrange therapy environments to create optimum learning conditions. Attend reconvened team meetings and parent‑teacher conferences. Develop appropriate IEPs and/or 504 Plans based on students’ strengths & needs and demonstrate awareness of professional performance in due process matters and litigious environments. Chair team meetings and participate collaboratively with multidisciplinary educational teams to develop Individualized Education programs (IEPs), write measurable goals and objectives, and complete all required documentation in a timely manner. Plan, coordinate, and conduct educational trainings for staff, parents, and students. Participate in professional meetings and workshops directly related to the speech‑language‑hearing profession. Perform related work as required. Please note that the location may change as required to meet staffing and student needs.
