906 Adamson St SW Atlanta, GA 30315, USA The Senior Business Analyst (SSA) reports to the appropriate Financial Business Partner for Recycling Services. The SSA performs accounting duties of a complex nature and prepares specialized reports and analyses. The SSA assists with the review of bank account reconciliations and journal entries. The SSA also reviews and coordinates accrual accounting for the business division. Preparation of month-end close journal entries and analysis of financial results is also falls within the duties of the SSA. The SSA works with the Financial Business Partner for Recycling Services to ensure that the close process is on track and implements changes as necessary to improve the close cycle process. Other responsibilities of the SSA include the accurate completion of journal entries; spreadsheets account analysis; ad-hoc projects regarding emerging accounting issues; and other duties which require the understanding of financial statements. The SSA is involved in the month-end closing; general ledger and internal / external audit support; tasks associated with managing the close cycle; and continuous improvement of the accounting environment. This position operates within broad parameters and involves the application of accounting principles to solve complex problems. The SSA works independently while fostering an environment of continual growth in process improvements, efficiency and cost effectiveness. Essential Functions Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S) Providing a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors. Operational Performance & Best Business Practices Prepares journal entries necessary to provide the first level of the divisional consolidated financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow) monthly, including maintaining and improving the reporting mechanism. Prepares technical aspects of assigned balance sheets and income statement account analyses and reviews back reconciliations. Performs analytical review of expenses and other areas of the business during month-end close. Reconciles complex general ledger accounts. Identifies transactional issues and proposes potential solutions. Provides back‑up review for supervisors. Reviews work produced by Commercial Support Specialists. Assists in training and mentoring Commercial Support Specialist. Administrative Management Assists in the maintenance of centralized master files for different suppliers. Reviews monthly pricing schedules for accuracy. Reviews monthly SCAP Reports prepared by Commercial Specialists. Reviews data entered by Commercial Support Specialists for accuracy. Enters requests for set up of new vendors in Oracle. Requests PO requisitions and follows up with the purchasing department until a PO # is obtain. Enters payments in the Scale System (SAI) when needed. Prepares and Submits Check Requests and ACH Requests to Corporate A/P. Researches status of payments when requested by vendors. Assists in the process of invoicing Brokerage transactions in Oracle. Reviews A/R variances assigned to the National Accounts and Reverse Logistics teams on the A/R Issue Logs, allocates them to the proper Commercial Specialists and follows up with them up until the issues have been resolved. Special Projects As assigned employee will work with others within and outside department to complete tasks. Internal Control Responsibilities Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures and controls to better relate to the business. Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions. Interpersonal Contacts Internal contacts are by phone, email and in person with all levels of personnel throughout the Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc related locations. External contacts are by phone, email, in person, and in writing: i.e. banks, financial institutions, etc. Incumbent interfaces with Corporate Finance, other finance professionals internal and external to company. Job Conditions Average office environment with little natural light. Some overtime required to complete deadline work for month-end and year-end processing. Attendance is critical during the first two weeks of the month and during year-end processing. Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions Ability to: lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally; sit for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; write by hand and keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; assemble papers, paper punch, staple, file; apply sufficient force to open and close file drawers. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Communication is primarily by phone, email and sometimes in person, with other departments within the Schnitzer Group. Visual acuity needed for close detail work, preparing and analyzing data figures, accounting, and computer use. Qualifications Three years of related experience required. Responsibility for company general ledger and financial statements preferred. BS or BA in accounting required. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting procedures / principles and GAAP framework required. CPA preferred as is public accounting experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel software, ERP systems (preferably Oracle) and 10-key competency. Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to build relationships. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required. Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision. Willingness to challenge conventional thinking for the betterment of the company.
