Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) Job Title: Financial Institutions Examiner Job ID: JC-524437 Classification: Financial Institutions Examiner, Range A (A, B, C) Salary Range: $4,928.00 – $9,600.00 per Month (minimum hire at $5,772.00 for the minimum salary rate) Position Summary The Financial Institutions Examiner works under the supervision of the Financial Institutions Manager to perform licensing and examination activities for state‑licensed financial institutions and other regulated entities within the DFPI’s Financial Services Office. The Examiner applies DFPI policies, regulations, and examination standards to evaluate the compliance and soundness of institutions and to report findings and recommendations to licensees and internal stakeholders. Working Conditions Primary work location in Sacramento – May Lee State Office Complex, River District (on‑site parking available for a fee). Option for telework after demonstrating job performance and securing an appropriate work‑from‑home arrangement. Other possible locations: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego offices – all located in major city financial centers with parking options available for a fee. Responsibilities Conduct examinations of financial institutions, including banks, credit unions, money transmitters, securities brokers, and other regulated entities. Review and analyze financial statements, internal controls, and regulatory filings. Prepare examination findings, risk assessments, and written reports for licensees and DFPI management. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date examination records and documentation. Communicate examination results to licensees and coordinate follow‑up actions as needed. Stay current on applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Minimum Qualifications Clearance of a Background Investigation (including fingerprinting and Criminal Offender Record Information). Understanding of California financial regulation and regulatory compliance. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage multiple examinations, projects, and changing priorities. Experience working with computer systems, Microsoft Office, and complex software products. Desirable Qualifications Strong knowledge and comfort with computer programs. Exceptional interpersonal skills, sound judgment, discretion, and a high degree of professionalism. Ability to secure and analyze information, evidence, and facts to render sound determinations. Experience with data analysis and audit techniques.
