Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care while promoting health, preventing illness and injury, and supporting patients and their families throughout treatment. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized plans of care, administering medications and treatments, and evaluating patient outcomes.

This position requires compliance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN will contribute to a professional, collaborative, and healing environment focused on delivering excellent patient care.

Important Oncology Requirement

Travelers must have experience hanging chemotherapy and must be able to hang chemotherapy independently starting on Day 1 of the assignment.

Candidates must have a Med/Surg Telemetry background and be comfortable working with oncology patients.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current New York State RN License
• BLS certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross)
• ACLS certification
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
• Additional unit-specific requirements must be validated prior to candidate submission

Required Experience & Skills

Candidates should have previous Registered Nurse experience and direct patient care experience. Strong Med/Surg Telemetry experience is required for this assignment.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, organization, time management, problem-solving abilities, reliability, and a commitment to quality and patient safety.

Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting is preferred.

Education

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Preferred:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for an assigned group of patients.
• Serve as the primary and/or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment.
• Provide safe and effective nursing care while considering patient needs, clinical competency, safety, and available resources.
• Educate patients and families regarding health promotion, treatment plans, and disease management.
• Utilize knowledge of pharmacology to safely administer medications and treatments according to United Health Services policies.
• Safely administer and hang chemotherapy as required by the oncology unit.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide coordinated patient care.
• Maintain compliance with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and facility policies.
• Effectively manage time, staffing resources, supplies, and services while maintaining high standards of patient care.
• Participate in nursing shared governance, unit improvement initiatives, and peer review activities.
• Participate in continuing nursing education, professional development, and all required facility education.
• Incorporate current nursing research and evidence-based practices into patient care.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Follow all United Health Services values, policies, and professional standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional certification in a related nursing specialty is preferred. Additional relevant certifications, such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC, may be required depending on unit-specific requirements.

Please Note: This unit specifically needs experienced travelers who are fully qualified and able to hang chemotherapy from Day 1.
