SALARY: The salary range for this position is $100,154.67 to $145,874.92 for Schedule A, and $100,154.67 to $138,581.18 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B. This position presents a unique opportunity to be part of a team of service-minded professionals within the OAE who support the statewide District Ethics Committees (DECs). The New Jersey Judiciary, Office of Attorney Ethics, Supreme Court of New Jersey, seeks an attorney to act as Deputy Statewide Ethics Coordinator in the District Ethics Committee Unit within the OAE. This position assists the Statewide Ethics Coordinator with the approximately 600 volunteer members of the DECs and the 53 DEC officers (all volunteer attorneys) who serve on the 18 DECs throughout New Jersey. The ideal candidate must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage a large and varied caseload efficiently. This role requires proactive identification of issues within the DECs, including procedural delays, conflicts, or other challenges that may impact the timely resolution of cases. The Deputy Statewide Ethics Coordinator is expected to follow up with DEC Officers and members to address these issues promptly and, when necessary, elevate complex or sensitive matters to the Statewide Ethics Coordinator for further guidance or intervention. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills are essential, as the candidate will regularly interact with volunteer attorneys, committee members, and other stakeholders across the state. The ability to foster collaboration, maintain open lines of communication, and build trust within the DECs is critical to ensuring the effective operation of the attorney regulatory system. The candidate should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, balancing multiple priorities, and adapting to evolving needs while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access. Example of Duties Act as the Deputy to the Statewide Coordinator within the DEC Unit responsible for directly supporting and assisting half of the 18 District Ethics Committees. Act as primary liaison attorney responding to questions and requests for assistance or response from assigned District Ethics Committees as determined by the Statewide Coordinator. Provide necessary support to make sure disciplinary investigations and hearings proceed forward in the District Ethics Committees in accord with the time goals set by the Supreme Court. Attend District Ethics Committee meetings for all districts on a rotating basis throughout the year which may occur in person and occasionally after normal business hours. Review the legal sufficiency of case documents to be submitted to the Disciplinary Review Board or the Supreme Court. Appear before the Disciplinary Review Board and the Supreme Court on such matters as determined by the Statewide Coordinator. Ensure the timely processing of grievances through tracking and follow up with District Secretaries consistent with Supreme Court time goals. Review and assess the legal sufficiency of investigation reports and disposition documents. Conduct the legal analysis and recommend courses of action in cases proposed for diversion or other disposition on consent. Assist in the coordination of outreach to, and recruitment of, new members for the District Ethics Committees. Prepare and participate in OAE training and legal education programs for the District Ethics Committees, the Bar and other audiences. Maximize the use of Microsoft Office suite of software products and other software and technology to produce efficiencies by relevant reports and memorandum. Provide such other assistance as may be requested or assigned by the Director or Statewide Ethics Coordinator. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. Qualifications Graduation from an American Bar Association-approved law school and three years of experience as an Attorney-at-Law performing legal research and analyzing and evaluating legal documents, rules, regulations, and/or legislation. Substitution: One year of experience as a Judicial Law Clerk may be substituted for one year of the required experience. License: Attorney-at-Law with a plenary license in the State of New Jersey and having Supreme Court Good Standing Status of Active. Supplemental Information Driver's License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information. Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need. The New Jersey Judiciary consists of: the Supreme Court, the Superior Court including the Appellate Division and the Trial Court of the 15 vicinages in New Jersey, the Tax Court and the Municipal Court System. The Administrative Office of the Courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training, research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the Courts of New Jersey.
