Job Description
A Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and medical equipment to ensure they are safe for use in healthcare settings. Their duties also include maintaining inventory and adhering to strict safety and infection control protocols.
Key Duties of a Sterile Processing Technician
These technicians play a crucial role in healthcare operations.
- Decontamination — They thoroughly clean and decontaminate used surgical instruments to eliminate pathogens.
- Assembly — Technicians inspect and assemble instruments into trays according to specific count sheets.
- Sterilization — They package and sterilize instruments using established protocols to ensure safety.
- Inventory Management — Maintaining inventory of sterile supplies and ensuring timely delivery to surgical teams is essential.
- Documentation — They document quality monitoring and compliance with safety standards.
Tests, operates and loads autoclaves.
- Participates in the routine cleaning and decontamination of all department work surfaces.
- Completes sterilization log sheets.
- Periodically checks sterile inventory in order to remove those items in which sterilization has expired or packaging has been compromised.
- Re-sterilizes compromised instrument sets.

Experience:
- Sterile processing: 1 year (Required)
License/Certification:
- CRCST or CBSPD (Required)
REQUIREMENTS: 1 Year experience, Current BLS, CMA Certified
