Payroll SpecialistThe Payroll Specialist works with the Payroll Coordinator to processes weekly payroll for a multi-state construction workforce - collecting and validating time, computing wages, and resolving discrepancies so employees are paid correctly and on time. This role sits on the corporate accounting/HR team and reports to the Payroll Manager.JR. & Co., Inc. is a veteran-owned building envelope contractor with 40+ years in business, roughly 450 employees, and 14 locations. We self-perform commercial roofing, architectural cladding, sheet metal, and glass & glazing on projects across the country. Our corporate team supports the crews in the field — and payroll is one of the most visible ways we take care of them.What You'll DoProcess weekly payroll including earnings, deductions, and taxesRun accurate off-cycle payrolls as neededValidate payroll data - time, pay rates, benefits, and job costingProcess garnishments, deductions, and benefit changesHandle prevailing wage and fringe benefit calculations on public and federal workPerform payroll reconciliations (registers, tax liabilities, benefits)Assist with payroll journal entries and reporting to accountingIdentify and resolve discrepancies - missing deductions, incorrect pay, timecard errorsMaintain employee payroll records and proper documentationSupport audits and compliance reportingWhat You Bring3+ years of payroll processing experienceWorking knowledge of payroll tax and multi-state compliance requirementsExperience with prevailing wage and fringe benefits (construction or certified payroll a plus)Strong Excel and data validation skillsExperience with payroll systems - ComputerEase and BambooHR preferredSolid understanding of accounting practices and tax lawDetail-oriented - able to catch discrepancies and errors at a granular levelExcellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to maintain confidential informationDependable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing needsValid driver's licenseWork Environment & Physical RequirementsPrimarily indoors, shared office environmentAbility to sit for prolonged periods working at a computerPass initial drug test and participate in random drug test programEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredAssociate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field preferredBenefits & CompensationHealth, dental, vision, and life insurancePaid time offPaid parental leave401(k) with company matchWeekly payScheduleDay shift, Monday - FridayIn person - Kansas City, MOSome overtime around payroll cycle deadlines and year-endJ.R. & Co., Inc. is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
