Dispatcher

The Dispatcher monitors radio and telephone emergency calls; relays necessary information to patrol units and emergency personnel. Maintains radio logs and other records; performs clerical duties necessary to update various records. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Essential functions include monitoring radio frequencies, receiving complaints, relaying information to patrol units, logging radio traffic, and maintaining various logs and records.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include verbal and writing skills, reading comprehension, basic math, listening skills, knowledge of radio codes, operating radio equipment and computers, knowledge of the City, and the ability to remain calm during emergencies.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license. Preferred qualifications include two years of emergency medical, fire, or police dispatch experience.

Physical demands include sitting regularly, using hands to handle and reach, talking or hearing frequently, standing and walking occasionally, lifting up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally, and having close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment is in a high call volume emergency dispatch environment with moderate noise levels.
