Title: Family Support Worker State Role Title: Counselor I Hiring Range: $41,000-$50,000 Pay Band: 3 Agency: Virginia Department of Health Location: CENT VA-LYNCHBURG CITY-Cen Agency Website: Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts. The Family Support Worker serves as a Service Coordinator for the Infant & Toddler Connection (ITC) of Central Virginia, providing coordination of early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities and their families. This position ensures that eligible children and their families receive timely, family-centered services that promote the child’s development within everyday routines and natural environments. The Family Support Worker collaborates with families, providers, and community partners to develop, implement, and monitor the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), ensuring continuity of care and access to resources in accordance with federal (IDEA Part C) and state regulations. The position is based in Lynchburg but may be required to work temporarily on a short-term basis in other district offices (Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell). Candidates are required to meet the Early Intervention Practitioner Qualifications as defined in Chapter 12 of the Early Intervention Practice Manual. VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. May be required by VDH to adjust work hours, location, and job duties and participate in training to meet public health business needs, including emergencies. If this position is designated as a mobile worker, this includes both working in the field and teleworking at an alternate location when not in the field or during an emergency closing. You may be required to periodically come into your assigned office to attend meetings or training. Minimum Qualifications Minimum KSAs: Experience providing support resources and information to customers. Understanding of infant and child development and family services. Experience in individual counseling, relationship building, and group leadership. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skill in interviewing clients to gather, interpret, and use data effectively. Proficiency in documentation, data entry, and record-keeping. Proficient in using computer systems and web-based case management documentation tools. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
