Registered Nurse – MedSurg / Stepdown

Location: Utica, New York — Onsite
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Nights, 3 × 12-hour shifts — 36 hours/week
Shift: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – MedSurg/Stepdown for a night-shift travel assignment in a hospital-based medical-surgical/stepdown unit.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience with stroke/stepdown exposure , along with prior travel nursing experience . The nurse will care for patients with a broad range of medical and pulmonary conditions, including stroke, altered mental status, renal and dialysis-related conditions, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and other complex medical-surgical diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to MedSurg/Stepdown patients during overnight shifts.
• Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions and changes in clinical status.
• Care for patients with stroke and neurological conditions.
• Manage patients with altered mental status and other complex medical conditions.
• Provide care for patients with renal disease and dialysis needs.
• Manage patients with COPD, CHF, pneumonia, pulmonary conditions, and isolation requirements.
• Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Monitor and manage IV therapy and infusion equipment.
• Provide care involving NG tubes and feeding tubes .
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and hospital policies.
• Float to other appropriate units as required.

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York .
• All active RN licenses must be verifiable through Nursys .
• 2+ years of MedSurg nursing experience .
• Experience with stroke/stepdown patients .
• Travel nursing experience required .
• Current AHA BLS certification .
• Current NIHSS certification or ability to obtain it prior to assignment start.
• Current skills checklist applicable to the MedSurg/Stepdown specialty.
• Recent resume demonstrating relevant clinical and travel nursing experience.
• Epic EMR experience preferred/required for the assignment.
• Ability to work 3 × 12-hour night shifts .
• Willingness to float as required.

Experience caring for patients with:

• Stroke and neurological conditions
• Altered mental status
• Renal disease and dialysis
• COPD
• CHF
• Pneumonia
• Pulmonary conditions
• Isolation/infection -control needs
• General Medical-Surgical conditions

Specialty Equipment

Experience with the following equipment and clinical devices is preferred:

• IV pumps
• NG tubes
• Feeding tubes
• Other standard MedSurg/Stepdown equipment
