Quality Technician - 2nd Shift

Qualifications High school diploma or GED Previous experience in automotive industry (preferred) Previous experience in quality department (preferred) Job Summary A Quality Technician is responsible for performing metallurgical inspections and tests on in-process production parts to determine if they meet customer specifications. In addition, a quality technician may be expected to perform the tasks of a contract processing technician if the volume of work demands it. This is a fast paced environment with meticulous attention to detail. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM with potential for mandatory overtime throughout the month. Starting Rate: $17-$18.50/Hour Responsibilities Monitor induction hardening machine quench concentration Section parts and prepare samples for quality inspections using abrasive blaster, cutoff saw, grinders and polishers, and mounting press Inspect and test parts at prescribed frequencies using magnetic particle inspection unit, hardness testers, microscopes, and various gauges to verify in-process production meets customer requirements Accurately and promptly document the results of inspections and testing Look for variations in inspection data and communicate observations to the appropriate personnel Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding out-of-spec inspection results Monitor general quality activities on the production floor (i.e. lot checklists are filled out, parts are being stacked properly on carts, parts on the carts are heat treated, etc.) Skills and Qualifications Ability to speak English fluently Basic computer skills Some data entry Proficient with Microsoft platforms (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) Ability to understand and follow directions, procedures, and work instructions Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers in a manufacturing environment Ability to self-manage and ask for assistance when necessary Ability to lift and manipulate 40 lbs. on an as-needed basis on and off the shop floor Ability to learn how to operate inspection equipment (i.e. cutoff saw, hardness testers, microscopes, etc.) Ability to be certified and drive fork trucks as needed Willingness to be cross trained in other areas and to perform additional duties as required Willingness to work overtime as required Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and push 40 lbs.
