Substation Physical Project Designer - Grid

Role:

Substation Physical Project Designer responsible for high and extra high voltage substation design within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review detailed substation drawings, including general arrangements, electrical plans, elevations, bill of materials, grounding, shielding, conduit, and control building layouts.
• Conduct technical reviews of vendor design deliverables to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
• Lead field walkdowns, gather data at client facilities, and interface with clients and contractors to address issues.
• Ensure designs adhere to applicable codes, standards, and client requirements; provide guidance on standards application.
• Mentor and supervise designers and drafters, review deliverables, and provide technical guidance on calculations and design approaches.
• Develop cost-effective designs, coordinate with other disciplines, and manage work within budget and schedule.
• Oversee day-to-day team performance and personnel issues, providing performance feedback and leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent experience; 15+ years of substation design experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; ability to visualize equipment details and clearances in 3D.
• Familiarity with Bentley Substation, Inventor SDS, BlueBeam, and ground-based Lidar is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of design standards, codes, engineering science, and technology principles.
