Inspects, installs, repairs, replaces and modifies pipes, fittings, equipment, and plumbing fixtures. Ensures that all work complies with codes and obtains necessary permits. Assigns work to and oversees the work of assigned facilities support staff. This position is located at Henry Ford Providence Hospital- Novi, MI. Responsibilities Demonstrates personal commitment to the organization s core values through active involvement in the service excellence process. Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs. Inspects, installs, repairs, and maintains pipe assemblies, piping systems, valves, gauges, pumps, and plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, dishwashers, and garbage disposals. Uses a variety of hand and power tools associated with the plumbing trade, and in addition, uses gas and arch welding equipment. Assigns work to and oversees the work of assigned tradespeople. Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specifications to determine type, size, and quantity of materials required. Determines if special procedures or hardware is required. Estimates plumbing material requirements and costs. Requisitions materials. Prepares records and service reports of materials and time expended. Installs piping and connects equipment, such as ice machines, sterilizers, washers, and sinks, with water, gas, or drainage systems. Modifies new or existing hospital equipment to fit a particular need or application. Fabricates new equipment and devices for special purposes. Inspects plumbing or related equipment and fixtures for proper orientation. Analyzes and determines causes of faulty operation and performs repairs, such as replacing worn parts on a regular basis. Obtains and processes plumbing permits for all repairs, renovations and new plumbing installed by hospital personnel. Orders and maintains sufficient inventory of plumbing and/or general maintenance supplies, such as pipe fittings, valves, nuts, bolts, fasteners, and threading equipment. Coordinates and inspects plumbing work installed by outside contractor to make sure it meets hospital, local, state and national codes. Prepares written inspection reports on all plumbing repairs, renovation, new work and tests. Maintains all required records and documents relative to these activities. Completes all work orders in a timely, legible manner, assuring that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained. Performs miscellaneous duties not related to plumbing as required or as assigned. Performs all other duties and projects as assigned. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Qualifications Education High school graduate or equivalent required. On-the-job training, trade school or military training in plumbing -required. License/Certification Master Plumber License - State of Michigan -required. Experience Eight years of concentrated plumbing experience preferably in a health care setting -required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills consistent with mission and values. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. Demonstrates ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail while performing tasks. Demonstrates ability to read, write and understand written and verbal communications. Demonstrates ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction and multiplication. Demonstrates ability to walk and stand approximately 90% of work time, lift and position equipment and devises up to 60 lbs.
