JOB SUMMARY
The objective of the Driver is to operate up to a 14-passenger bus or van to transport the public in a safe and timely manner, with excellent customer service, assisting passengers in boarding and debarking; to communicate with dispatcher and passengers to ensure effective service; to maintain cleanliness of vehicle; may operate in an on-demand mode or on a route schedule.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are the performance expectations of the City along with examples of how the expectation relates to the position of Driver. This is not an exhaustive list of job responsibilities and therefore, other duties may be assigned: On-going Improvement Job Knowledge & Effectiveness Expectation to: Provide transportation for the public. Meet performance standards for on-time schedules, customer satisfaction and vehicle cleanliness. Communicate frequently with dispatcher for drop off and pick up times for riders. Maintain daily records of passenger data and provide transportation reports as required by KDOT. Performs pre/post-departure vehicle checks. Report maintenance and upkeep needs for vehicles when needed to supervisor. Assist passengers in boarding and debarking, assisting passengers on and off the bus if necessary. Attend mandatory RTAP Driver’s Training as required by KDOT. Attend training sessions and staff meetings. Greet customers and assist with questions they may have, providing excellent customer service. Supports the operations of the department by: Demonstrates ability to plan, complete tasks and monitor results within established deadlines and performance standards. Effectively applying knowledge to solve a range of problems. Following department policies on a consistent basis. Performs job responsibilities in a consistent, timely and cost-effective manner, ensuring customer satisfaction. Identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities and takes action consistent with available facts and probable consequences. Adjusts to changing conditions; accepts new duties and responsibilities with a positive attitude. Assists customers by answering questions and explaining the transportation service. Maintains professional manner when a resident or customer has a complaint or problem. Safety Assists co-workers in the safe handling of equipment and in other duties as appropriate. Ensures that the City’s equipment is safely operated, and all driving laws are obeyed. Ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed. Reports all accidents to the appropriate individual. Follows all policies for reporting, investigating, and follow-up of equipment incidents, or personal injuries. Understanding if items are in need of repair and takes responsibility to ensure that it is either fixed properly or informs the appropriate personnel.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. The ability to secure and possess Certification in Advance First Aid and CPR. The ability to secure and possess a valid Kansas motor vehicle operator’s license. Good driving record as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Must pass DOT physical exam, as well as drug, urine and breath alcohol tests as mandated by KDOT, including random drug testing.SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to cooperate with staff and the public. Ability to maintain a professional and customer-friendly manner when dealing with the public. Ability to comprehend, retain and apply city and state policies and legislation, i.e. city ordinances, procedure manuals, etc. Ability to operate various types of equipment: wheelchair lifts, two-way 800 MHz radio. Ability to possess time management skills to keep on schedule.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form. Ability to read City policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; MSDS sheets, safety manuals, maps, etc. English proficiency is required; Bi-lingual (Spanish) proficiency preferred.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public. Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations. Ability to use good judgment and effectively solve problems.PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
