Refuse Collector I - 955/Residential

Job Description Summary The purpose of this job is to collect and transport refuse and recycling materials to appropriate facilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Drives, rides, and/or stands on rear of rear load truck for collection of refuse/recycling material. Assists with collection of large items as necessary. Performs pre- and post-trip inspections, basic vehicle maintenance, and fueling. Assists driver of assigned rear load truck with safety-sensitive tasks. Services rear load dumpsters and roll carts. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory authority. Work may require providing guidance and training to others. Human Collaboration and Job Impact Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contact may require consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Experience driving a commercial vehicle. Licenses or Certifications Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no air brake restriction. Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Refuse/recycling truck operation. Safety standards and procedures. Job related rules and regulations. Skill in: Operating a commercial vehicle in traffic and restrictive spaces. Navigating assigned route. Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience. Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding. Ability to: Follow written and verbal instructions. Read and interpret maps. Read and fill out forms. Maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Perform routine maintenance on large vehicles. Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Incumbents may be required to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Hours/Days 7:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M., Monday - Friday. In the event of a holiday, pick-up days are delayed by one day, and Saturdays are required.
