Job Description
ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) will work in a fast-paced environment within the Medical Surgical Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population with critical medical conditions, requiring the ability to think critically and adapt quickly to complex situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient care for up to 16 beds, adhering to a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, with occasional 1:1 assignments for critical cases.
• Monitor and manage patients with various critical diagnoses, including sepsis, STEMI, COVID, stroke, neurosurgery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, and DKA.
• Administer medications and titrate various intravenous drips, including sedation, paralytics, pressors, antihypertensives, heparin, and insulin.
• Utilize specialized equipment, including Gaymar Hypothermia, Arrow Balloon Pump, Camino Neuro monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, and lumbar drains.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in bedside shift reports and intentional hourly rounding.
• Engage actively in ongoing education and seek out resources for continuous improvement and learning.
• Read and interpret telemetry strips as required, ensuring comprehensive patient monitoring.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
• At least 1 year of experience in an ICU setting is preferred.
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to handle complex medical situations.
• Capability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse patient population, including non-English speakers.

Scheduling and Orientation

• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts.
• Weekend requirements: Every other weekend.
• Holiday requirements: As needed.
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts.
• No self-scheduling; unit schedulers will manage the scheduling system.
