Senior Project Engineer – Solar PV & Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support the engineering, design, and execution of utility-scale and large distributed generation Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This individual will play a key role throughout the project lifecycle, from development and preliminary design through construction, commissioning, and project closeout

.The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in civil, structural, geotechnical, and/or mechanical engineering, with experience supporting renewable energy projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions

Key Responsibilities

• Project Development & Preliminary Design
• Advance conceptual designs into preliminary engineering packages
• Support late-stage development activities including
• PV system design and optimization
• Energy modeling
• Module allocation
• Geotechnical investigations
• Pile load testing
• Tree and site surveys
• Preliminary electrical design development
• Procurement strategy support
• Coordinate and manage third-party engineering consultants and specialty service providers.
• Review consultant proposals, evaluate bids, and provide recommendations for contract awards.
• Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies

Engineering & Design

• Develop and optimize Solar PV and BESS system designs for construction readiness.
• Create and review engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
• Utilize AutoCAD to develop and review project design packages.
• Maintain and improve engineering standards, design procedures, and technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices, including ASCE and ASTM requirements

Preconstruction & Execution Support

• Support project handoff from development into preconstruction and execution phases.
• Assist with preparation of technical materials supporting project investment decisions.
• Provide technical guidance to support commercial, contractual, and legal decision-making.
• Participate in design review meetings and coordinate technical alignment across project stakeholders.
• Review EPC design deliverables and technical documentation

Construction & Commissioning Support

• Provide ongoing technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Asset Managers, and Owner’s Representatives to resolve technical issues.
• Support project commissioning, startup activities, and post-commissioning requirements as needed

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Continuing education or industry training related to Solar PV and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems preferred

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience supporting engineering, permitting, construction, and commissioning of utility-scale or large distributed generation Solar PV and/or BESS projects.
• Experience managing engineering consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience supporting projects through development, design, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Demonstrated experience with civil engineering, stormwater management, geotechnical engineering, and/or foundation design for racking systems

Technical

• SkillsStrong AutoCAD drafting and design experience.
• Knowledge of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System design principles.
• Strong understanding of civil, geotechnical, and mechanical engineering fundamentals.
• Familiarity with EPC project execution.
• Strong knowledge of applicable ASCE and ASTM standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams
