Transportation Engineer

Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Branch Chief of the Office of Traffic Management, a Senior Transportation Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent serves as the TMC Operations Support Engineer in the TMC Operations Branch. The incumbent is responsible for statewide coordination and support in the operation of Transportation Management Centers (TMC). The incumbent assists in collecting, monitoring, and reporting on the day-to-day activities of the TMC. The incumbent provides contract management, project management, technical support and development of software used to assist the TMC in incident management activities. The incumbent provides support on systems operation, performance, and reliability of an end-to-end traveler information infrastructure that includes Traffic Management Systems field systems, traffic control systems, communications systems, central management systems, and other related electrical and electronic systems that utilize state-of-the-art technology. Working Conditions Position is located in Sacramento, CA. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position may be eligible for telework; the amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’ evolving policy. In-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. The selected candidate will be able to report to the headquartered location as needed. Business travel may be required. TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER (ELECTRICAL) Special Requirements Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
