Knollwood is a Life Plan Community in upper northwest Washington, DC, serving retired military officers and their families. Our residents gave decades of service, and our work is to help them stay strong, active, and independent. Wellness here runs on team work, and the Fitness Manager sits at the center of it. As Fitness Manager, you lead our fitness and aquatic programs. You teach and design the classes, run the pool safely, and build the programming that keeps residents moving. You also build and coach your own team of instructors and aquatic staff, and you pa rtner each week with Life Enrichment, clinical, dining, and operations colleagues on shared wellness goals. You will not do this work alone. You will do it as part of a team that treats resident well - being as a shared responsibility.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Plan and lead group fitness classes for residents of varied abilities, with falls prevention at the center. Design individual exercise programs and track progress, coordinating with therapy and nursing. Oversee daily pool operations and aquatic safety, and step in as lifeguard when needed. Recruit, train, and coach a team of fitness instructors and aquatic staff. Partner across departments on wellness challenges, seminars, health fairs, and special events. Manage the fitness and aquatic budget, program schedules, and equipment.

THE TEAM YOU WILL JOIN

You report to the Director of Life Enrichment and join a team whose work is to enrich residents’ daily lives. Life Enrichment, clinical staff, dining, and operations move together here. Your fitness and aquatics programs connect to therapy, nutrition, and social programming, so the people around you are partners in the same goal, not separate departments you hand work off to. You will also lead a team of your own, setting the tone for instructors and aquatic staff and helping them grow.

WHAT YOU BRING

A degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion, or recreation management, or five or more years of fitness management experience. A current, nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification. A Personal Trainer certification is preferred. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification. A Lifeguard certification is required, or a willingness to earn one after hire. Experience programming for older adults or active aging populations, strongly preferred. The leadership and collaboration skills to motivate residents and coach a team.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $6 7 ,000 to $ 8 1 , 0 00 per year, based on your experience and certifications.
