Security Guard

Joliet Public Library | Full-Time | Non-Exempt The Joliet Public Library is seeking a dependable, alert, service-minded Security Guard to help create a safe, welcoming environment for our patrons, staff, and visitors. As a Security Guard, you’ll play an important role in maintaining the security of our library buildings and grounds while providing courteous, positive service to people of all ages. This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable taking initiative, remaining calm in challenging situations, and using good judgment when safety or security concerns arise. What You’ll Do Patrol the library building and exterior grounds regularly to help ensure the safety of patrons, staff, and property. Monitor activity and address situations that may result in disruptive or inappropriate behavior. Enforce library Rules of Conduct in a firm, professional, and respectful manner. Complete opening and closing procedures and ensure the building is properly secured. Check doors and windows and monitor the building alarm system. Respond appropriately to safety and security concerns and contact police or fire departments when necessary. Provide assistance and backup to staff as directed. Escort staff and patrons to their vehicles when requested. Complete clear, accurate, and timely incident reports and security logs. Utilize security cameras and CB radio equipment as part of daily security operations. Empty book drops and perform other duties as assigned. What We’re Looking For High school diploma or equivalent. Previous security experience or training preferred. Knowledge of security best practices. Ability to remain alert, attentive, and calm while responding quickly and decisively. Strong judgment and the ability to handle difficult or challenging situations. Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative member of a team. Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly by radio and in person. Ability to prepare accurate written reports. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and email. Ability to learn and consistently apply library policies and procedures. A positive, patient, and professional approach when working with library patrons of all ages. Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends . Physical Requirements This is an active position requiring substantial walking and standing throughout the library and its grounds. The position involves bending, stooping, repetitive movements, talking, hearing, and visual observation. The ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds is required.
