About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Northern NJ. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in GAAP, hands-on experience preparing journal entries, and familiarity with billing/invoicing processes. This role is well-suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes ownership of the monthly close cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and post journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Manage client/customer billing, including generating invoices, tracking accounts receivable, and resolving billing discrepancies
• Maintain accurate and organized general ledger records
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and balance sheet accounts
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal reporting packages
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
• Support external audits and tax preparation by providing documentation and schedules
• Identify and help implement process improvements within the accounting function
• Collaborate with other departments to resolve billing or accounting-related inquiries

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 1–4 years of relevant accounting experience (staff accountant or similar role)
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Proven experience preparing and posting journal entries
• Experience with billing/invoicing and accounts receivable processes
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., xhyhwjd QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• CPA track or progress toward CPA a plus, but not required
