Recycling Coordinator (Temporary)

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Manager, the Recycling Coordinator is responsible for managing the Environmental Departments Recycling program and overseeing the administration of the SWIFR (Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling) grant. Key responsibilities include developing and coordinating the recycling program, liaising with tribal businesses on the composting initiatives, and overseeing construction and procurement activities related to the SWIFR grant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversee the purchase and maintenance of recycling equipment.Collect, sort, and ensure proper disposal of recyclables.Coordinate the logistics of compost drop-off and pick-up from tribal businesses.Explore and establish sustainable methods for solid waste disposal and recycling.Maintain a clean and organized recycling center.Schedule, monitor, and document the volume and origin of oil collections from community members.Contribute to the planning and execution of tribal donation programs and community clean-up days.Assist in developing policies and procedures for the Recycling Center.Manage composting operations and maintain compost piles.Conduct annual solid waste audits to assess and improve waste management practices.Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous waste in compliance with safety standards.Travel locally as required, with infrequent out-of-state travel.Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED.One years experience or more in solid waste management and recycling practices. Understanding of county recycling regulations and compliance requirements.Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and driving a trailer.Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments effectively.Must have a valid California Drivers license and proof of personal vehicle insurance.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of compostingHAZWOPER CertificationKnowledge of PPE and proper solid waste handling protocols Forklift certified.

NATIVE PREFERENCE

Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473.
