This multicraft maintenance role combines both mechanical and electrical responsibilities in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will troubleshoot and repair a wide range of production equipment, support preventive maintenance programs, and help keep critical systems running safely and efficiently. The position involves hands-on work with stamping presses, injection molding machines, robotics, PLCs, and automated assembly lines, while using modern tools such as a laptop and a computerized maintenance management system to document and track work.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on a variety of production equipment, including stamping presses, injection molding machines, automated assembly lines, conveyors, molding equipment, and rubber mixing machinery.
• Work with PLC-controlled equipment, including Mitsubishi PLCs, to identify and resolve control and automation problems using laptop-based diagnostic tools and PLC troubleshooting techniques.
• Troubleshoot and repair 6-axis industrial robots, including Fanuc, Yamaha, and Mitsubishi robots, as well as other automated systems used in the manufacturing process.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on boilers and air compressors to ensure reliable operation and compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive, complete, and document work orders, including recording parts used, labor time, and detailed notes on repairs.
• Follow and execute a preventive maintenance (PM) schedule to reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and support continuous production.
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, hoses, and related components.
• Maintain and repair pumps, motors, conveyor systems, and gearboxes, including mechanical disassembly, replacement of worn components, and reassembly and alignment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and technical documentation to support accurate and efficient troubleshooting and repairs.
• Work with electrical systems including 24V and 208V AC/DC, and support work on 480V and 3-phase systems as needed, following all safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements.
• Perform industrial electrical troubleshooting on motors, motor controls, PLC control circuits, sensors, and related equipment to restore proper operation.
• Apply welding and basic fabrication skills, when needed, to repair or modify equipment components, brackets, and guards in a safe and functional manner.
• Implement and follow safety procedures, including use of arc flash uniforms, lockout/tagout practices, and other plant safety policies.
• Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, production personnel, and contractors to prioritize work, reduce downtime, and support production goals.
• Participate in training and skills development programs designed to support progression through maintenance levels and eligibility for performance-based increases.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring issues, suggesting improvements to equipment or processes, and helping implement long-term solutions.

Essential Skills

• At least 2–3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (experience must not be limited to distribution settings).
• Proven experience performing both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on industrial equipment.
• Hands-on experience working with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic components.
• Hands-on experience working with pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic components.
• Experience maintaining and repairing pumps, conveyors, motors, and gearboxes in an industrial setting.
• PLC troubleshooting experience, specifically with Mitsubishi PLCs or similar PLC platforms.
• Experience working with 24V and 208V AC/DC electrical systems; exposure to 480V and 3-phase systems is considered a strong plus.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Industrial electrical troubleshooting skills, including work on motors, motor controls, PLC control circuits, and related systems.
• Mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical failures on production machinery.
• Basic computer skills, including the use of laptops for troubleshooting and documentation, and basic Excel skills.
• Experience working within a CMMS or similar system for managing and documenting work orders and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to follow and implement safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and arc flash safety practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with sensors and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Experience troubleshooting industrial robotics, including 6-axis robots such as Fanuc, Yamaha, and Mitsubishi.
• Familiarity with ladder logic and PLC programming concepts to support advanced troubleshooting.
• Welding and/or fabrication experience for equipment repair and modification.
• Experience with stamping operations and related stamping equipment.
• Previous experience in automotive or similar high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Comfort working with older machinery and legacy systems while also adapting to newer technologies.
• Strong communication skills to clearly document work and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to work second or third shift and occasional weekend overtime as scheduled.
• Interest in long-term career growth, including progression into higher-level maintenance or engineering roles.

Work Environment

This role is a 6-month contract-to-hire position within a large manufacturing plant of approximately 400 employees. The facility operates multiple shifts, with openings on second and third shift. One second-shift opening has weekend overtime primarily on weekends, typically every 2–3 Saturdays and about one Sunday every 4–5 weeks. Training takes place on first shift for 1–2 weeks to ensure a smooth transition into the role. Standard shift hours are approximately 6:50 a.m.–3:10 p.m. for first shift, 2:50 p.m.–11:10 p.m. for second shift, and 10:50 p.m.–7:10 a.m. for third shift. The maintenance team is growing toward a target of seven technicians per shift, with additional electrical contractors supporting daytime operations.

The environment is typical of an industrial manufacturing facility: it is loud, has a noticeable rubber smell, and includes older machinery alongside more modern equipment. The plant is well lit and produces automotive components such as fuel hoses, air conditioning hoses, turbo air hoses, water and vacuum hoses, mounts, transmission parts, suspension parts, and chassis parts. Maintenance technicians work with a wide range of equipment, including stamping presses, injection molding machines, automated assembly lines, conveyors, molding and rubber mixing machinery, boilers, air compressors, PLC systems, and industrial robots. Each technician receives a laptop for equipment troubleshooting and work order documentation and works extensively within a CMMS to manage preventive and corrective maintenance. Safety is a strong focus, with arc flash uniforms provided and strict adherence to lockout/tagout and other safety protocols. A composite-toe shoe requirement is in place, supported by an annual stipend, and the overall culture emphasizes safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bluffton, OH.

The pay range for this position is $37.08 - $38.46/hr.
