Plant Manager – Steel Fabrication

Location: Hamtramck, MI

Schedule: Day Shift | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Salary Range: Up to $80,000 base

About the Opportunity

A highly specialized steel fabrication manufacturer serving the foundry industry is seeking a Plant Manager to lead its small Hamtramck operation.

This is not a traditional office-based Plant Manager position . The company is looking for someone with extensive hands-on steel fabrication experience who can lead the shop, manage day-to-day production, and genuinely understand the work being performed on the floor.

The ideal candidate may currently be a Shop Foreman, Fabrication Supervisor, Welding Supervisor, Fabrication Manager, Lead Fabricator, or experienced Senior Fabricator ready to move into a larger leadership role .

With a small team and a significant backlog of work, this person will have a direct impact on production, quality, employee accountability, and the continued growth of the operation.

What You’ll Do

• Lead daily production activities across a small steel fabrication operation
• Prioritize jobs and coordinate workflow to keep projects moving on schedule
• Provide day-to-day direction, accountability, and support to shop employees
• Oversee fabrication quality and ensure completed parts meet expectations
• Troubleshoot welding, fitting, forming, drilling, and other fabrication issues
• Coordinate material, tooling, equipment, and resource needs
• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive shop environment
• Monitor backlog and adjust production priorities based on customer and operational needs
• Work closely with ownership on production priorities and day-to-day shop needs
• Stay actively involved on the shop floor and assist with fabrication work when needed
• Take ownership of the day-to-day operation and help improve overall production flow

What You Bring

• Extensive hands-on steel fabrication experience
• Strong MIG welding and fabrication knowledge
• Hands-on understanding of fitting, drilling, bending/forming, welding, assembly, and the overall steel fabrication process
• Previous leadership, supervisory, foreman, or lead experience within a fabrication or manufacturing environment
• Ability to lead experienced tradespeople and earn credibility through firsthand knowledge of the work
• Strong understanding of production workflow, quality, safety, and shop priorities
• Ability to troubleshoot fabrication and production challenges
• Comfortable working in a small-shop environment where leadership stays close to the work
• Strong ownership mentality and ability to keep people, projects, and production moving
• Senior Fabricators ready to take the next step into leadership are encouraged to apply
