Project Specialist (IVC - Rising Scholars)

SUMMARY

Provide support for the Rising Scholars Program for formerlyincarcerated and system-impacted students. This position includessupport for planning and execution of monthly meetings, workshopsand large-scale events. Engage compassionately with students andprovide a warm hand off to on and off campuses resources. Createand build the Rising Scholars community on campus that increases asense of belonging for system impacted students.

Theposition requires frequent interaction with students, faculty, andstaff in person and via phone or digital platforms. May requireoccasional evening or weekend hours for events and programming.Occasional travel to other campuses or community locations may berequired. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability andmobility to work in an office setting: Sit or stand for prolongedperiods. Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, or reach. Lift, carry,push, and/or pull materials up to 25 pounds. Operate officeequipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination.Use vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. Usehearing and speech to communicate clearly in person and on thetelephone. Vision and Hearing: See in the normal visual range withor without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with orwithout correction. Work Schedule: TBD –Schedule and shift vary and are subject to change in accordance with the department's needs. Hours per Week: Up to 25 Employment Conditions and Information: This is a short-term, temporary, hourly Non-Bargaining Unit (NBU)assignment, not to exceed 160 days and 960 hours per fiscal year(July 1st through June 30th). Short-term, temporary NBU positions may only be used on anintermittent, seasonal, or project basis. Education CodeSection 88003 states 'Short-term employee means any person who isemployed to perform a service for the district, upon the completionof which, the service required or similar services will not beextended or needed on a continuing basis.’ After successful completion of the onboarding requirements, anindividual may be employed by the South Orange County CommunityCollege District (SOCCCD) as a short-term, temporary NBU employee.Employment will be on an “if and as needed” basis, as determined bythe SOCCCD. The assignment may be shortened or extended at anytime, due to departmental needs, with little to no notice. NBUemployment is at-will, and either party may terminate this workingrelationship at any time. Neither party shall be required toprovide any reason for the separation. NBU employees shall not havereemployment rights or recourse to petition to be reinstated. NBU employees are limited to working in a single position for asingle department and site (assignments are onsite only). NBU employees are paid on a monthly basis. The payroll reportingperiod is from the 1st of the month to the last day ofthe month. NBU employees are paid on the 10th of the followingmonth. Example: For the followingreporting period: January 1st through January31st, the NBU employee will be paid on February 10th. NBU employees who work more than 1000 hours per fiscal year arerequired to contribute to the California Public EmployeesRetirement System (CalPERS), through payroll deduction. The SOCCCDdoes not intend to employ NBU employees for more than 960 hoursduring any fiscal year.
