Travel Psychiatric Nurse (RN) - Louisville, Kentucky

Deliver exceptional psychiatric nursing care working in a dynamic adolescent behavioral health unit. This role offers the opportunity to provide care for patients ages 14-18 with diverse behavioral diagnoses, including self-injurious behavior, mood disorders, aggression, and psychiatric crises. The unit typically cares for 18-21 patients daily, with a supportive interdisciplinary team committed to patient and staff safety.


Schedule/Hours:

• 3 x 12-hour shifts per week
• Every third weekend rotation
• No on-call responsibilities

Qualifications & Experience:

• Active RN license with at least 6 months of experience
• Prior travel nursing experience through an agency required (first-time travelers not eligible)
• Current BLS certification; CPI certification will be provided during orientation (must physically participate in holds/restraint training)
• Skilled in de-escalation, crisis intervention, and safe physical holds
• Ability to manage multiple escalated situations and apply both verbal and physical interventions
• Professional resilience, strong soft skills (patience, compassion), and ability to work with high-acuity adolescent populations
• Comfort with floating to different age groups and units as needed
• EMR experience (Cerner) and familiarity with restraint equipment preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, monitor, and stabilize patients during psychiatric emergencies
• Implement individualized care plans, including seclusion/restraint when clinically indicated
• Administer IM medications and perform critical interventions
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team: therapists, case managers, program coordinators, security staff, and response teams
• Proactively recognize and respond to increasing agitation or safety issues
• Maintain thorough documentation in Cerner EMR
• Flexibility to float between adolescent, pediatric, and adult units as required
