Position Title: OB-GYN Physician (Independent Contractor)
Our organization operates a 112-bed community hospital that delivers both primary and specialized medical care to a patient base exceeding 70,000 individuals. As a civilian OB-GYN physician, you will be essential in promoting the health and well-being of women throughout various life stages. The OB-GYN physician will offer inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and on-call services in obstetrics and gynecology, which includes diagnosing and treating conditions related to the female reproductive system, as well as managing prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care for both routine and complex pregnancies, along with standard care for newborns.
Key ResponsibilitiesGather patient medical histories; conduct physical examinations; assess the necessity for and order relevant laboratory and radiology tests; interpret findings to establish diagnoses and prognoses, and initiate suitable treatment plans, therapies, and follow-up care. Provide comprehensive instructions regarding medications, restrictions, and follow-up procedures. Refer patients to specialists when necessary.
Act promptly in response to ‘Code Blue’ medical emergencies within the facility, delivering resuscitation efforts until specialized medical assistance arrives. If resuscitation is unsuccessful, the physician will declare the patient deceased, complete required documentation, and inform the next of kin if they are present.
Offer medical consultations to Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, and other clinical personnel as needed, adhering to the latest standards of care.
Ensure timely documentation of surgical inpatient services. Maintain medical records in compliance with established regulations. These records will be subject to peer review, and the contracted physician will be informed of any deficiencies in record-keeping.
Be present in the clinic or readily available throughout the scheduled shift, except when responding to emergencies.
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited medical institution in the U.S. or Canada, along with successful completion of postgraduate training.
A valid, unrestricted medical license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
At least one (1) year of OB-GYN experience within the past two (2) years as a full-scope obstetrics and gynecology physician.
Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology is required.
A current, valid registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is necessary.
Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from the American Heart Association are required.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
The schedule includes 14 clinic days, which consist of 1-3 operating room days; primary in-house calls include one weekend (two 12-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday), two weeknight shifts, and primary calls for labor & delivery and emergency/other consultations. Backup beeper calls will align with the primary call schedule. The position allows for 11 days off, including most weekends. Secondary on-call (beeper) duties occur after hours and on weekends, rotating with other clinical providers, with a required response time of 30 minutes.
