The primary purpose of this position is: To conduct interviews with Family Advocacy Program (FAP) clients, administer assessment questionnaires, provide training to individuals at risk for family maltreatment, and assist other staff members in the research and evaluation of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP).

Help

  • Conducts comprehensive screening interviews with Family Advocacy Program clients.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive outreach and prevention programs for individuals, families, and groups requiring assistance with family-related issues.
  • Coordinates resource and referral services between military and civilian community agencies to ensure comprehensive support for military families.
  • Performs program administration and data management functions to ensure effective operation of the Family Advocacy Program.

    Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. (CONT'D BELOW)
  • Employees must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". In accordance with (IAW) Public Law 101- 647 Section 231, Public Law 102-190, Section 1094, and DoD Instruction 1402.05, background checks are required. (CONT'D BELOW)
  • DD Form 2981 Basic Criminal History and Statement of Admission, Installation Records Check, FBI fingerprint, and Tier 1 with a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check will be completed on any person selected for this position. (CONT'D BELOW)
  • Renewal every five years of the Installation Records, FBI Fingerprint and SCHR is required with annual review of DD Form 2981.
  • This position is notionally projected to transfer to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) within the next 24 months in order to fulfill the congressionally-mandated requirements from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (CONT'D BELOW)
  • 2017 Section 702, as amended in 2019. The incumbent of this position during such time of transfer, will no longer be a Department of Defense (DoD) civilian under the authority, direction and control of the DHA.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Per AFI 44-108: Must maintain and produce proof of immunizations, as deemed necessary by appropriate medical authority or Dept, detect, or control infections or communicable diseases.
  • All federal employees are required to have direct deposit.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Social Services Aid and Assistant 0186 Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes intensive knowledge of the Family Advocacy Program's (FAP) rules, operating policies, practices, procedures, and regulations to provide information about the program's services, requirements, and procedures, provide basic counseling, and participate in the development of action plans for the Family Advocacy Outreach Prevention Team. Knowledge of all resource and referral sources to assist employees to informally resolve conventional family problems. Knowledge of types of unconventional family problems to refer clients to other Family Advocacy staff.

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of FAP requirements and procedures and basic methods and techniques of counseling.

2. Knowledge in developing an education curriculum with learning objectives and outcomes.

3. Skill in using word processing automation software functions to support office operations and produce a variety of textual documents, such as letters, reports, memos, and form letters.

4. Skill in tactfully interviewing clients coming to the FAP office.

5. Ability to work well with others in a team setting; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: If position has a positive degree requirement or education forms the basis for qualifications, you MUST submit transcripts with the application. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
