Elkhart County governmental position vacancy notice. Hiring range: $28.30-$31.45/hour based on education and position related experience. Longevity pay after 3 years. Position to be filled: asap. Hours and days of work: 40 hours/week. Location of position: Elkhart County highway garages including Goshen, Elkhart or Newparis. Travel requirements: within county (please complete driving page on application).

Job summary: responsible for maintaining road signs and related devices; maintaining roadways and adjacent areas; operating vehicles and equipment; performing maintenance on equipment.

Job requirements: high school diploma or GED, must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of and ability to maintain a class a commercial driver's license (CDL) with required endorsements and demonstrated safe driving record. Ability to regularly work extended hours; occasionally work weekends and evenings and travel out of town, but not overnight, for training; and occasionally respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis and/or from an off-duty status. Working knowledge of assigned department trucks and equipment with ability to maintain roads and highways, complete related maintenance, and follow safety measures.
