The Position Our bank client seeks to fill a Bank Controller role based in the greater Chicago, IL market. The selected candidate will be responsible for financial reporting to the Board of Directors, regulatory authorities, and internal management of the bank. Responsibilities include ongoing development of the Accounting Department staff, ensuring compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls, establishing and maintaining an accounting system reflecting the bank's financial position, providing financial consolidation of branches and subsidiaries, and supervising the Accounting Staff. Compensation and Benefits This position offers a competitive salary of up to $175K, a full benefits package, and may be bonus eligible. (This is not a remote position) Bank Controller Responsibilities Responsible for financial analysis, reporting, cash management, and forecasting. Approve and implement cost control strategies, monitor activities. Prepare budgets and analyze variances. Provide staff training and coaching for professional development. Report financial results to the Board of Directors and regulatory authorities. Guide the bank in accounting procedures and regulatory compliance to maximize profitability. Coordinate the annual budget with department managers, review variances, and support financial analysis. Analyze asset/liability management models, product pricing, branch profitability, and peer comparisons. Advise management on tax law or regulation changes affecting operations or profitability. Coordinate and provide documents for internal and external audits. Participate in federal or state examinations. Monitor daily cash position and loan loss reserves. Ensure compliance with GAAP and bank policies. Adhere to policies, procedures, and customer service standards. Comply with the Bank’s Standards of Conduct and perform other duties as assigned. Skills and experience include: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or CPA preferred. Minimum of 10 years in accounting for financial institutions, with staff supervision experience. Deep knowledge of GAAP and current reporting standards for financial institutions. Advanced understanding of policies and procedures at community banks preferred. Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. Problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve issues efficiently.
