Research Scientist I Applications to be submitted by July16,2026. Compensation Grade: P18, annual salary $69,764. Downstate adjustment of $4,000 applies for positions in New York City, Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, or Westchester Counties. Location: Wadsworth Center, Bacteriology laboratory. Responsibilities Work within the Bacteriology laboratory to conduct bacterial disease clinical testing and surveillance using advanced technologies. Utilize conventional and molecular methods to accession specimens, perform bacterial culture, and conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Study a range of public health bacteria, including antimicrobial resistant, vaccine‑preventable, sexually transmitted, and other bacterial pathogens. Collaborate with a dynamic team supporting the Wadsworth Center’s mission and NewYork State Department of Health efforts. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, and at least two years of research experience; or Master’s degree in the same fields with at least one year of research experience. Meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements (full list available at Preferred Qualifications NYS Clinical Laboratory License. Experience in molecular biology or microbiology. Proficiency in bacterial culture techniques for aerobic and anaerobic organisms and susceptibility testing. Experience with DNA extraction, real‑time PCR, and sequencing. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Conditions of Employment Expected duration through July31,2027; funding anticipated thereafter. Compliance with funding requirements, time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables. Valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization required; no visa sponsorship. Up to 10% travel required. Position is fully onsite; telecommuting not allowed. Candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location and be willing to relocate to NewYork, NewJersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts prior to hire.
