Deputy HR Director

The City of Fayetteville, operating under a Council‑Manager form of governance, is searching for a skilled and collaborative human resources professional to serve as its newly created Deputy Director of Human Resources. This role provides the opportunity to build internal capacity, shape organizational culture, and support the City’s workforce across all departments. Responsibilities Lead the City’s Training and Development function, identifying, developing, and delivering training programs aligned with the City’s mission, vision, and values. Support supervisory professional development and partner with external vendors on specialized training initiatives. Serve as the point of contact for the HR department in the absence of the Director and assist with management of the City’s Risk Management programs. Lead the City’s Health and Wellness initiatives and manage exit interview processes. Recommend policy improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of HR services. Qualifications Integrity and character to effectively manage human resources functions in a fast‑paced environment. Adept at determining and ordering priorities; managing delegation of responsibilities to key staff. Positive attitude and ability to interact with citizens, elected officials, staff, and consultants. Expertise in advising city leaders on complex and/or controversial issues. Ability to recognize the limitations of confidentiality when dealing with employees and willingness to assert themselves to achieve outcomes in the best interest of the City. Customer service mentality for “getting to yes” while adhering to all laws and regulations. Humble and naturally helpful person. Ability to read people, quickly decipher challenges and use good judgment in making difficult decisions. Keen eye for talent. Resourceful problem solver willing to provide others credit. Salary Salary range: $105,000 – $115,000.
