The Great Elephant Migration is a global fundraising adventure created by Coexistence Story to bring its mission, harnessing the power of creativity and storytelling to inspire and empower coexistence, to life on a global scale. Through a traveling public art installation of 100 life-sized elephant sculptures handcrafted by Indigenous artisans from The Real Elephant Collective, the project uses creativity, culture, and collective experience to inspire new ways of thinking about how humans and wildlife can share space. Each elephant is modeled after a real wild elephant roaming the forests of Tamil Nadu, India, and sculpted from Lantana camara, an invasive plant that contributes to habitat loss and increased human-wildlife conflict. By transforming this destructive weed into works of art, the project itself becomes an act of coexistence, restoring habitat while creating economic opportunity for Bringing together Indigenous knowledge, contemporary artists, cultural institutions, and communities around the world, The Great Elephant Migration raises awareness and funding for human-wildlife coexistence projects globally, helping people and migratory species thrive together. In summer 2026, The Great Elephant Migration will arrive in Boston with 100 life-sized elephant sculptures installed across iconic Back Bay locations, including Commonwealth Avenue Mall, Dartmouth Street, and the Boston Public Library. Position Summary The Exhibition Site Manager will support visitor engagement, volunteer coordination, and on-site exhibition activities for The Great Elephant Migration Boston exhibition. This is a part-time seasonal contract role ideal for individuals interested in arts administration, museum studies, public humanities, nonprofit programming, visitor experience, or public art operations. The role is especially well-suited for graduate students, early-career arts professionals, or candidates seeking hands‑on experience working on a large-scale public art project. The Exhibition Site Manager will work closely with the Coexistence Story core team and fellow exhibition staff to help create a welcoming, engaging, and organized experience for visitors and volunteers throughout the exhibition period. July 27 – August 6, 2026: The role will primarily focus on flexible remote support for volunteer outreach, scheduling, and exhibition preparation. August 6 – September 16, 2026: The role will transition into a primarily on-site support position across the Boston exhibition footprint, including some weekend and evening availability. Key Responsibilities Support volunteer recruitment and outreach efforts in collaboration with the communications team Coordinate volunteer sign-ups, scheduling, and shift reminders Assist with volunteer onboarding and orientation Help maintain a positive and welcoming volunteer experience throughout the exhibition period Visitor Experience & Public Engagement Serve as a friendly and informed public-facing representative of the exhibition Welcome visitors and respond to general questions about the exhibition and project mission Share information about participating artists and artisans, The Great Elephant Migration, and Coexistence Story Assist visitors with exhibition resources, information points, and mobile app engagement Help direct interested collectors and supporters to the appropriate team contacts when needed Encourage respectful visitor interaction with the exhibition spaces Exhibition Support Assist the core project team with general on-site coordination and visitor flow during exhibition hours Help monitor exhibition spaces and communicate any concerns or operational needs to the core team Support merchandise, informational, and public engagement activities as needed Attend exhibition trainings, briefings, and team check-ins Qualifications Required Strong communication and interpersonal skills Organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple tasks Interest in art, culture, conservation, public engagement, or nonprofit work Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team Comfortable using scheduling tools, communication platforms, and mobile applications Preferred Experience in visitor services, events, hospitality, education, or community engagement Familiarity with public art, museums, exhibitions, or cultural programming Experience working or volunteering in nonprofit or mission-driven environments Temporary part-time contract position based in Boston, MA Flexible remote from July 27 – August 6, 2026 Primarily on-site from August 4 – September 16, 2026 Weekend and some evening availability required throughout the exhibition period Role requires extended periods of standing and walking outdoors in varying weather conditions Compensation This is a temporary contract position with a stipend range of $5,500–$6,000, depending on experience.
