Join a busy, precision-focused machine shop in Santa Fe Springs, CA as a CNC Mill Machinist. In this role, you will primarily work on CNC mill machines, performing setups and operating equipment to produce high-quality, tight-tolerance parts used in a wide range of critical applications. You will contribute to efficient production, support continuous improvement, and ensure that all work meets rigorous quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Communicate proactively with leads and fellow machinists to review job requirements before starting work.
• Set up and operate CNC mill machines to produce parts that meet blueprint specifications and tight tolerance requirements.
• Make provisions for safety and provide guidance that supports a safe working environment for all employees.
• Report machining, quality, or equipment issues promptly to operations leadership to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
• Decrease waste and improve efficiency by employing innovative machining solutions and best practices.
• Follow all Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and work instructions related to machining and inspection.
• Perform part measurement and inspection using appropriate measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics, identifying dimensions, features, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
• Use hand tools such as wrenches and related equipment to make machine adjustments, offsets, and changeovers.
• Support production goals by meeting daily and weekly output requirements while maintaining quality standards.
• Train on first shift as required and transition to assigned shift while maintaining consistent performance.
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining processes, tooling wear, and G-code related issues.
• Contribute to continuous training efforts by applying new skills and techniques learned on the job.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience, ideally with primary focus on CNC mill machines.
• Previous experience working in a machine shop environment.
• Strong setup and operating experience on CNC mills, including working with offsets and changeovers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, with excellent blueprint reading skills.
• Ability to identify dimensions being cut and strong comprehension of GD&T requirements.
• Ability to measure parts accurately and use measuring tools for inspection.
• Understanding of G-code and tool wear conditions to adjust programs and tooling as needed.
• Ability to work with very tight tolerances in a production environment.
• Ability to provide information and guidance on particular machining methods when needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as part of regular shop duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English in a production and team environment.
• Capability to meet company production requirements consistently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience performing CNC mill job set-ups without assistance is a strong plus.
• Excellent shop math skills are highly desirable.
• Computer literacy is a plus for working with programs and documentation.
• Experience with aerospace machining environments is a significant advantage.
• with inspection processes and using inspection tools.
• Familiarity with lathe operations, Okuma equipment, and programming is beneficial.
• Comfort working with parts used in aerospace, medical, automotive, industrial, and military applications.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in a high-precision manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop in Santa Fe Springs, CA, operating on either 1st shift (7:00 am – 3:30 pm) or 2nd shift (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm), with training initially conducted on 1st shift. The facility is a high-volume manufacturing environment with over 50 CNC machines producing parts used in jet fighters, commercial airplanes, helicopters, satellites, race cars, medical equipment, water pumps, and other demanding applications, including some components used for military purposes. The shop emphasizes precision, tight tolerances, and adherence to quality procedures, with regular use of hand tools, measuring instruments, and CNC controls. The setting is fast-paced, safety-focused, and technology-driven, suitable for individuals comfortable working around advanced machinery and critical-use components.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Fe Springs, CA.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
