Clinical Genetics - Actionability and Genome Editing (Adjunct Pool) Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Faculty, Adjunct The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors for the following course in the Certificate in Applied Genomics program at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI): CAG 9011 Clinical Genetics: Actionability and Genome Editing (Spring, 3 credit hours) Course Description In this course, executive education students will explore how genetic and genomic information can impact the medical management of patients, both now and possibly in the near future. The course will explore how genetic diagnostic products are designed, validated, and approved and the uses of whole genome, whole exome, and targeted sequencing approaches in clinical settings. The course will also discuss the role of precision therapeutics and pharmacogenomics in patient care. Lastly, participants will explore the utility of gene therapy and genome editing, including ethical and regulatory considerations. Education and Experience Applicants must hold a master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred. Have experience in online teaching and have experience in industry or academic research in clinical genomics. An ability to work effectively in a team environment. Prior experience in teaching for active learning is preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing; possess the ability to listen to all points of view, build consensus, and inform others of policies and decisions. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities. Hours, Classification, and Status This is a part-time, exempt, adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits. Schedules will vary depending on course assignments and the needs of the department or the Institute. The base salary range for this position is $2,500 - $15,000 per semester, depending on credits per course. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to maintain good concentration while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop (e.g., to file). Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs. (e.g., to lift or move office supplies, files, books, and packages).
