Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Endoscopy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 9 Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: Illinois state RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: Moderate sedation, patient care, endoscopy procedures, patient assessment, health history review Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process and nursing trends. The role includes supporting patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, including preparation, intra-procedure, and recovery phases for routine GI procedures. The RN will provide direct patient care and deliver moderate sedation under the direction of a physician. Collaboration with unit staff is essential to provide care to outpatient populations. The RN may delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel as appropriate. Responsibilities include performing all duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. Implementing procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice is essential. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care is necessary for the integration of information for the healthcare team. An initial assessment will be completed upon patient admission, and an appropriate plan of care developed in accordance with unit standards. The plan of care will be modified based on continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety involves reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. Direct communication with others is required to resolve issues when necessary. Providing constructive feedback to support the professional development of peers is encouraged. The RN should identify learning needs and take initiative to address them. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is expected. The RN prepares the patient for procedures and starts IVs while providing education to patients. Monitoring and sedating patients during their procedures is part of the role. Caring for patients in recovery phases is essential. The RN assists during cases requiring anesthesia involvement. The overall role involves defining, directing, supervising, and evaluating patient care through the nursing process.
