Details Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) of an acute care hospital setting 20-bed unit with a 1 RN to 2 patient ratio Patient population historically includes sepsis, ARDS, pneumonia, AKI, ETOH withdrawal, and overdose cases Uses EPIC EMR 12-hour night shifts scheduled 7:00 pm to 7:30 am Required to work every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights) No on-call or standby requirements Travelers float first; if floating to a lower level of care, assignment would be 3 patients on a stepdown unit or 4 patients in a general medical environment PCT support available at a 1:10 ratio Charge RN and 24/7 house supervisor coverage on the unit Intensivist coverage in-house from approximately 0700-1900 with telemedicine intensivist and on-call attending support after hours Telemetry monitored by a dedicated tele tech using Philips monitors, though RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting strips RNs are required to titrate a wide variety of vasoactive and cardioactive medications per physician-driven parameters RNs assist with respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow beyond troubleshooting Requirements Active IL RN license required Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required BSN not required for this position Must be able to interpret EKG strips Experience with arterial lines and central lines required Proficient in care of the ventilated patient Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors required EPIC EMR experience preferred Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus Additional Information Provide direct bedside care to critically ill medical ICU patients, including titration of vasoactive and cardioactive medications per ordered parameters Monitor and interpret telemetry strips and EKGs independently Collaborate with charge RNs, house supervisors, and intensivists as part of a structured care team Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours learning EPIC, 8 hours with a unit educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor Scrubs are not provided; no specific color is required but sweatshirts are not permitted Holiday coverage is generally not required but may depend on staffing needs Local rate applies to candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, with no radius restriction on eligibility COVID vaccination is not required for consideration American Traveler Job ID P-741968.
