IT Support Specialist 1 - Document Accessibility Remediation Technician

Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH). 10 openings on a 10-person document remediation team. Limit one submittal per supplier.

- Work mode: remote, but candidates must be local to the Atlanta area
- Rate: $25/hr C2C

Role classification: under direct supervision, provides management information system user support on a continuing basis, either by phone or site visit, and troubleshoots end-user problems.

Job summary:
The DCH Accessibility Remediation Technician will contribute to an agency-wide project to remediate accessibility issues in static documents such as PDFs, Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. The selected individual will receive on-the-job training, established procedures, and ongoing guidance and oversight from the project supervisor. This position is well suited to someone with general IT skills, strong computer proficiency, good attention to detail, and the ability to quickly learn and consistently use new software tools and technical procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Participate in on-the-job training related to PDF accessibility, document remediation procedures, and the software tools used by the organisation
- Learn and use specialised software to identify and correct accessibility issues within PDF documents
- Review assigned PDF files and perform remediation tasks according to established procedures and instructions
- Modify document structure and accessibility elements such as tags, headings, lists, reading order, tables, links, images and document properties as directed by established procedures
- Use automated accessibility-checking tools to identify potential issues and verify completed work
- Perform basic manual quality checks of remediated documents
- Coordinate with the agency webmaster to upload accessible documents and replace existing non-accessible ones
- Work with the project supervisor to resolve questions, review unfamiliar issues, and determine how complex documents should be handled
- Escalate documents or accessibility issues that fall outside established procedures or require advanced remediation
- Follow documented workflows and consistently apply established remediation standards
- Maintain accurate records of assigned documents, work completed, remediation status, and any issues requiring additional review
- Manage and organise electronic files in accordance with established file-naming, storage and document-control procedures
- Process a high volume of documents while maintaining accuracy and meeting established productivity expectations
- Incorporate feedback from the supervisor and quality-review process into subsequent work
- Protect confidential or sensitive information contained within organisational documents
- Perform other related technical and project-support duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Required:
• General knowledge of computers, software applications, file management and common office technology - 2 years
• Modify document structure and accessibility elements such as tags, headings, lists, reading order, tables, links, images and document properties - 2 years
• Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro or other PDF editing software - 2 years
• Experience with document processing, data entry, records management, quality assurance, or other high-volume production-oriented work - 2 years
• Highly desired:
• Experience using Equidox PDF Remediation Software - 1 year
