Star Swiss CNC Setup Machinist

TekPro is partnering with a leading precision component manufacturer in Wilmington, NC. This team produces complex, tight‑tolerance parts for demanding industries and invests heavily in advanced technology—and the skilled machinists who run it. With precision manufacturing on the rise in the Wilmington market, this is an excellent long‑term opportunity for experienced CNC professionals.

A day in the life

You roll up to a Star Swiss CNC, review the setup sheet and blueprints with GD&T callouts, and stage your tooling. You install inserts and holders, set and update offsets, verify the program, and load bar stock. You cut the first piece, inspect it with calipers, micrometers, height and pin gauges, and submit an internal first article to Quality. With a green light, you load and run production to plan—monitoring tool wear, replacing tooling proactively, and making program adjustments to keep parts in spec and throughput high. Throughout the run, you document results and maintain the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

What you'll tackle

Set up and operate Star Swiss CNC machines.
Perform medium to advanced machine setups.
Install tooling, update offsets, and make program adjustments.
Load and run production according to manufacturing plans.
Monitor tool wear and replace tooling as needed.
Complete first‑piece inspections and submit internal first articles to Quality.
Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and other precision metrology tools.

What you bring

Hands‑on experience setting up and operating Star Swiss CNC machines.
4+ years of CNC machining in a production or job‑shop environment.
Strong Swiss or CNC lathe setup background.
Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T.
Proficiency with precision inspection equipment.
Four‑ and five‑axis machining exposure is a plus.

Compensation

Experienced Star Swiss Setup Machinists: $32–$40/hr
Experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinists (Training into Swiss): $28–$30/hr
Operators with a few years of CNC experience: Starting around $25/hr
Potential sign‑on bonuses available for exceptional Swiss Machinists.

Training pathway

Strong CNC Lathe setup background but new to Swiss? If you bring solid machining fundamentals, mechanical aptitude, and the drive to learn, our client will train you into Swiss machining.
