Import / Export Specialist

The Import / Export Specialist – Trade Compliance is responsible for executing day to day import and export compliance activities to ensure adherence to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), export control, and applicable international trade regulations. This role supports cross border operations, works closely with customs brokers and internal stakeholders, and plays a key role in risk mitigation, audits, and regulatory compliance for U.S. and Mexico trade activities.

Additional Skills

Key Responsibilities:
Import Compliance:• Prepare, review, and validate import documentation to ensure compliance with CBP and Participating Government Agency (PGA) requirements.

• Support accurate tariff classification (HTSUS), country of origin determinations, valuation, and special trade program eligibility (e.g., USMCA).

• Coordinate with customs brokers to resolve entry discrepancies, holds, and post entry issues.

• Assist with duty, tax, and fee analysis, including reconciliation and audit support.

• Monitor broker performance and escalate compliance or operational risks as needed.

• Support post entry activities such as corrections, protests, prior disclosures, and duty recovery initiatives related to 232, AD/CVD, or other special duties.

• Support post entry adjustments and reconciliations, including analysis of duty differences, overpayments, or underpayments related to valuation, 232 tariffs, AD/CVD, or other special duties not limited to Aluminum import licenses.

• Manage Trade Compliance KPI’s form a Duty perspective to minimize duty impact across the organization.

Export Compliance

• Support export transactions in compliance with U.S. export regulations (EAR/ITAR/Antiboycott Language as applicable).

• Assist with product classification (ECCN / Schedule B), license determination, and AES filings and ITN’s.

• Perform denied party screening and ensure proper recordkeeping for export activities.

• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure export documentation accuracy and timely shipments including In-Bonds.

• Trade Compliance & Risk Management

• Maintain accurate trade records in accordance with regulatory retention requirements.

• Participate in internal audits, customs audits, and compliance assessments.

• Support post entry activities such as corrections, protests, prior disclosures, and drawback claims.

• Monitor regulatory changes impacting imports and exports and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.

• Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for trade processes.

• Cross Functional Support

• Collaborate with logistics, procurement, finance, engineering, and operations teams to ensure compliant trade execution.

• Act as a point of contact for trade compliance questions related to import/export transactions.

• Support C TPAT / OEA, broker audits, and other compliance initiatives as assigned.
