Staff Accountant | The Bazaar The Tone: This is a full-time role at The Bazaar, located on-site in River Grove, IL. The Bazaar is a third-generation family-owned wholesale distribution company with over 65 years of experience in buying and selling closeout and excess inventory. We work with leading manufacturers and distribute branded consumer products to more than 1,200 independent retailers, distributors, and exporters globally. This position is vital for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records within a fast-paced environment. The Staff Accountant supports daily financial operations, including treasury, payroll, inventory, and month-end close activities, contributing significantly to the overall success of the organization. The TL;DR Role: Full Time Type: Full-time Location: In-person, River Grove, IL Pay: $65000–$75000 yearly Team: Works with the Controller and accounting team. Mission: Owns the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting daily treasury, payroll, inventory, and month-end close. Tech Stack: ERP systems, Microsoft Excel (Acumatica preferred) What You’ll Actually Do General Ledger: Prepare and post manual journal entries, including payroll, bank fees, accruals, and inventory adjustments, while also analyzing account activity and investigating any discrepancies. Month-End Close: Assist comprehensively with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, preparing all necessary schedules and supporting documentation, completing balance sheet account reconciliations, and ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are consistently met. Reconciliations: Perform timely and accurate bank reconciliations for all operating and treasury accounts, research and resolve outstanding reconciling items, and regularly reconcile Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory, and other subledgers to the General Ledger. Payroll & Benefits: Accurately and timely process payroll in accordance with company policies, reconcile payroll reports to ensure correct general ledger recording, prepare payroll-related journal entries and accruals, and support payroll tax and benefit reconciliation activities. Inventory & Fixed Assets: Review and record inventory adjustments and write-offs, analyze inventory transactions for variances, reconcile inventory subledger activity to the general ledger, maintain the fixed asset ledger, and calculate and post monthly depreciation entries. The Must-Haves Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a strong understanding of General Ledger accounting and month-end close processes. Experience: At least 3 years of accounting experience, including payroll accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
