Residential Therapist

Legends Recovery Center is seeking a dedicated Residential Therapist to provide individual, group, and family counseling services to clients receiving 24-hour residential care for substance use and co-occurring behavioral health disorders. The Residential Therapist works as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team to assess client needs, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and support clients in building the skills necessary for sustained recovery. This position offers a supportive, team-based clinical environment with room for professional growth, ongoing supervision, and support toward independent licensure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and psychosocial evaluations for clients admitted to the residential program. Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, the treatment team, and referral sources. Facilitate individual counseling sessions addressing substance use, co-occurring mental health conditions, trauma, and relapse prevention within your scope of practice. Facilitate psychoeducational and process-oriented group therapy sessions, as needed. Provide family education and, where appropriate, family counseling sessions. Document all clinical services timely and accurately in the electronic health record, in compliance with Ohio Administrative Code, licensing board standards, and accreditation requirements (e.g., CARF/Joint Commission). Coordinate discharge planning, including referrals for continuing care, community resources, and aftercare support. Participate in clinical supervision, treatment team meetings, and case staffing, as scheduled. Respond appropriately to crisis situations, including risk assessment for suicidality, homicidality, and relapse risk. Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state confidentiality regulations, including 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Clinical Director. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet all of the following minimum requirements to be considered for this position: High school diploma or GED equivalent, required. Current, active Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) certification issued by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board (OCDP), required. Ability to pass a background check (BCI/FBI) and pre-employment drug screening, consistent with Ohio residential treatment licensing requirements. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team and maintain professional boundaries with clients. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including timely and accurate clinical documentation. Preferred Qualifications The following are preferred but not required. Candidates who meet these qualifications may be considered for a higher starting compensation tier and expanded clinical responsibilities: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field. Independent or associate-level licensure through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board, in one of the following: Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) Prior clinical experience in a residential or inpatient substance use disorder treatment setting. Experience with evidence-based modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), or trauma-informed care. Experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (dual diagnosis). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction treatment principles, and the recovery process. Understanding of Ohio behavioral health licensing standards and confidentiality regulations. Ability to manage a caseload and prioritize competing clinical demands. Sound clinical judgment and crisis-management skills. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software. Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse client population. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Position is based on-site at a residential treatment facility; may require alternative schedules including evenings, weekends, or on-call availability depending on program needs. Requires sitting, standing, and walking throughout the facility; occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. May involve exposure to individuals in acute emotional distress or crisis.
