Qualifications, Education and Licensure:

Requirements:

• Doctorate or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
• Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist.
• Eligibility for or possession of school-based credentials (if required by state).
• Knowledge of IDEA/Indiana Article 7 and school-based service delivery models.

Preferred:

• Experience working in a school setting or with pediatric populations.
• Familiarity with IEP development and educational team processes.
• Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The School-Based Physical Therapist (PT) provides evaluation, intervention, and consultation services to students with disabilities in order to support their access to and participation in educational programs.


Services are delivered in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and aligned with federal and state regulations, including IDEA and Indiana Article 7.

Responsibilities :

1. Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations for students referred for services.
2. Interpret evaluation results and determine educational relevance of motor and mobility needs.
3. Participate in eligibility determination and contribute to multidisciplinary evaluation reports.
4. Deliver services in a variety of settings (classroom, therapy room, playground, community environments).
5. Support students in accessing educational environments, including mobility, positioning, and equipment use.
6. Utilize evidence-based practices to improve functional outcomes.
7. Consult with teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, and families regarding student needs.
8. Provide training on positioning, safe transfers, use of adaptive equipment, and mobility strategies.
9. Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other related service providers.
10. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including service logs, progress notes, and evaluation reports.
11. Ensure compliance with IDEA/Indiana Article 7, state regulations, and district policies.
12. Assess need for assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
13. Recommend, monitor, and support the use of equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and seating systems.
14. Assist in ensuring compliance with accessibility standards within the school environment. Participate in IEP meetings and other required conferences.
15. Other duties as assigned.
