Park Recreation Supervisor

Duties Description Under the supervision of a higher‑level manager and the park administration team, the Park Recreation Supervisor supports programs and operations within Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park. The incumbent performs the following duties: Supervises Staff and Programs Assigns staff, prepares schedules, supervises, and evaluates the effectiveness of contractors’ and seasonal assigned staff in various complexes as needed. Supervises recreational programs and assigned staff, participates in recruitment, training, teaching various programs and classes, coordinates the set‑up and breakdown of assigned areas including but not limited to rehearsal rooms, parkwide events, mainstage area, monitors various programs parkwide on a daily basis within the park. Works with various complexes to ensure the agency’s mission and customer service goals are communicated and met including supporting summer camp initiatives, hiring and interviewing of counselors & support staff. Responsible for floor checks, site inspections and personnel paperwork. Covers scheduled Officer of the Day shifts as needed and inspects cleaning and maintenance tasks performed by staff. May also serve as shift supervisor in another complex and/or for all programs and operations. Supports Operational and Maintenance Needs Inspects, evaluates, and assures the readiness and availability of equipment and facilities to meet requirements for scheduled activities. Coordinates with higher level management staff as directed to assure that priority needs for maintenance and repair are promptly identified and addressed in a manner which avoids disruption of park operations to the greatest extent feasible. Develops and implements cleaning and routine maintenance schedules for various complex staff. Plans major repair and preventative projects in conjunction with the maintenance supervisors. Assists higher level managers to plan and budget for equipment, repairs and supplies needed to support existing and planned programming and events. Performs Administrative Duties Assists with determining needs of the complex: purchasing materials, equipment, and supplementary contractor services for required maintenance and repair of buildings, mechanical systems, fixed equipment, and grounds. Assists with the submission of payroll, instructor payment invoices, contracts, and special event contracts. Completes necessary purchasing requests and prepares and/or compiles any required supporting documentation. Makes recommendations to higher level management for policies, procedures, training, and facility improvements to enhance the customer experience and promote customer satisfaction. Ensures that all Agency, Regional and Park standards for service delivery, customer service and employee conduct and performance are consistently met. Sets standards and assigns tasks based on the daily operational needs of the park. Works closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met. Carries out other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of experience in an organized recreation program, one year of which must have been in the coordination and implementation of the program. If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part‑time and volunteer experience. Operating Needs Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. If not licensed at the time of appointment, the appointee must obtain a driver’s license without restrictions or conditions within the term of probation This position is 40 hours per week; weekend, holiday, and evening work are required as operational needs arise. Must be well organized and creative. Must have excellent communication and problem‑solving skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $4,000
