Job Description: The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has a unique opportunity for a college student to gain hands-on experience in real estate, working directly under a Certified General Appraiser in our Right of Way Division. As a Real Estate Appraisal Intern, you will be trained on how to establish market values of real property interests and assist the Appraiser in doing so. JOB DUTIES Utilize data gathered from public records, site inspections, and experience from Certified Appraisers and enter data into the Department's Automated Right of Way Management System (ARMS) for the creation of Appraisal Reports and setting of Just Compensation. Research public records for information pertaining to individual tracts on a project (County Assessor's property cards, zoning data, flood zone information, etc.). Research County records and MLS (Multiple Listing Service) data for recent sales to assist the appraiser in valuing the subject tracts. Shadow appraisers occasionally on field inspections of projects. Inspect subject tracts, meet with landowners, and gather estimates for damages caused by our projects. Cross-train with other Right of Way Division Sections in various real estate-related fields including: Property Management, Highway Beautification, and Negotiations. Cross-training could include assisting with title research, issuing permits, and document preparation. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualification:

Must be a three-fourths-time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: Students in at least their second year of school planning a career in real estate, business, economics, agriculture, or a related field. Preference will be given to those with some real estate classes already completed. Other: Employment may be possible for up to 4 years with proof of enrollment in an accredited college. Class schedules must be submitted at the beginning of employment to verify enrollment and transcripts of grades. Must be able to work at least 10 hours per week (or more, as determined by the employing agency based on the applicant's class schedule) when classes are in session (full-time work may be available during breaks). Regular and reliable attendance is required. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES Skilled in conventional computer software (word processors, spreadsheets, etc.) as well as other equipment (cameras, copiers/scanners, etc.). Basic understanding of real estate (land usage, trends, etc.). Must be able to read and interpret narrative, visual, and numeric information (legal descriptions, maps, highway design plans, etc.). Must be able to collect, organize, and present information in a report format. Must have good communication skills and be able to communicate in person, via telephone, and electronically. If you're
