Job Title: Wound Ostomy Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Wound Ostomy Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Experience: Minimum of Four (4) years of clinical experience License: Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California - Current and in good standing Certifications: Wound and Ostomy Certification Must-Have: CWON Certification Description: Functions as the clinical resource for patients and staff regarding ostomy, continence disorders, acute and chronic wounds, skin breakdown, and fistulae. Provides direct wound and ostomy care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Offers patient and family teaching and instruction on wound and ostomy management, both pre and post-operatively. Assists the healthcare team in evaluating skin and wound products and equipment. Provides educational programs, in-services, and bedside teaching for nursing staff. Stays current with skin care practices and shares advances in wound and skin care assessments, evaluations, treatments, and prevention measures. Assesses all patients with a pressure injury staged at Three (3) or above. Reviews cases of all patients who develop a hospital-acquired pressure injury. Meets appropriate reporting requirements. Evaluates overall healthcare needs and practices to eliminate hospital-acquired pressure injuries. Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal skills. Exhibits knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols. Displays effective oral and written communication skills. Embodies strong job knowledge, patient counseling capabilities, and business acumen. Maintains trust and accountability in professional relationships. Demonstrates the ability to handle technology and equipment relevant to wound and ostomy care. Willingness to travel as necessary. Shows innovation and ensures customer satisfaction. Preferred: Two (2) years of experience in wound and ostomy care.
