The Opportunity This opportunity with Black & Veatch supports electrical engineering efforts within the Mission Critical Solution, where infrastructure is designed to protect national security and support high‑consequence federal missions. Mission‑critical infrastructure includes electrical power and distribution systems that must operate reliably without interruption. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Electrical Staff Engineering Technician supports the development of high‑quality electrical engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects. This role applies advanced technical knowledge to assist with electrical power distribution plans, lighting layouts, grounding systems, and associated electrical details using Autodesk Revit. The technician supports interdisciplinary coordination using Autodesk Navisworks and performs drawing review and markup in Bluebeam to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with design standards. Working closely with electrical engineers and project teams, this position supports both conceptual and detailed design efforts to deliver consistent, mission‑aligned electrical solutions. In this role you will have the opportunity to: Function in a project engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables. Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions. Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables. Provide technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. Key Responsibilities Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures. Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables. Proactively apply BV Quality Program to deliverables. Demonstrate personal accuracy and support continuous improvement and change management efforts. Review design inputs to ensure consistency. Assist to ensure deliverables are in compliance with specific codes and standards suitable for the project. Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Begin to apply judgment and make decisions regarding deliverables and input interpretation. Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and provide technical guidance to other professionals. Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records. Review deliverables of others. Define work assignments and maintain schedules. Program control systems or participate in other plant start‑up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise. Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development. Support field activities. Focus on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external client’s main interests and drivers. Proactively seek and share knowledge of latest technologies and processes. Apply judgment and make decisions regarding deliverables and input interpretation. Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. Minimum Qualifications Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
