Job Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Tool Designer with experience in industrial and manufacturing automation. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in mechanical design, automation equipment, tooling, material handling, and machine integration.







Title: Mechanical Tool Designer
Location: Lewis Center, Ohio







Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop manufacturing automation systems, assembly automation, machine integration, and process optimization solutions.
• Design conveyor systems, material handling equipment, transfer mechanisms, and high-speed automation lines.
• Develop pick-and-place systems using pneumatic, servo, and robotic technologies.
• Design and integrate robotic automation systems for assembly, machine tending, packaging, inspection, and material handling.
• Design jigs, fixtures, and tooling for manufacturing, assembly, testing, and inspection.
• Perform engineering calculations related to strength, speed, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force.
• Create working drawings, detailed drawings, and Bills of Materials using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Select appropriate mechanical components such as linear motion guides, servo motors, sensors, and other standard parts.
• Support bowl feeder selection, material handling equipment, and special-purpose machine (SPM) design.
• Review designs and drawings for accuracy, manufacturability, material selection, machining requirements, finishes, and applicable standards.
• Coordinate with electrical designers and programmers regarding machine operations, I/O requirements, and sequencing.
• Work with vendors, fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians to support integration, debugging, and completion of systems.
• Select tools, fixtures, equipment, and purchased components required for mechanical assemblies.
• Provide technical guidance and coordinate mechanical design activities across team members.
• Communicate project progress, timelines, resource requirements, and design updates to relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain project documentation, drawings, schedules, requisitions, and related engineering records.
• Assist with developing and maintaining mechanical design and departmental standards.
• Follow applicable safety, quality, and engineering procedures.

Required Skills

• Strong experience in Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Automation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Experience with high-speed automation line design.
• Experience with conveyor systems and material handling equipment.
• Knowledge of pick-and-place, robotic, pneumatic, and servo-based automation.
• Experience designing jigs, fixtures, tooling, and special-purpose machines.
• Knowledge of bowl feeders and sensor selection.
• Strong understanding of standard mechanical components and their selection.
• Working knowledge of electrical devices such as switches, load cells, and LVDTs.
• Strong problem-solving and conceptual design skills.
• Ability to coordinate mechanical design activities and work effectively with onsite/offshore teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience working in industrial automation, manufacturing automation, or similar environments.
• Strong communication, coordination, and project management skills.
